Book Review: The Sun Is Also A Star

Book Title: The Sun Is Also A Star Yoon_9780553496680_jkt_all_r1.indd(AmazonGoodreads)
Author: Nicola Yoon
Genre: Contemporary YA
My Rating: 4 / 5 stars

This was an entirely readable and enjoyable contemporary YA romance. I really love the diversity (one character is Jamaican American and the other is Korean American) and I thought the characters were interesting and relatable. It was fun that it had alternating points of view because I felt like I could get into Daniel and Natasha’s heads better. There were just a couple things about the style that seemed kinda “gimmicky” to me, like the interspersed chapters from an entirely different point of view, and the story line of the character who makes Natasha late at the courthouse coming back up later (trying to avoid spoilers here). I just found that whole piece a little too pat, so it made it seem a bit trite and unsophisticated, if that makes sense. However, I thought the exploration of the role of fate and destiny in our lives, versus things just happening by random chance, and the face-off between philosophy/poetry (Daniel) and science/reality (Natasha) was really well done. I would love to read more about these characters because I couldn’t get enough of them!! I heard this might be being made into a movie, and I am *THERE* for it.
